Getting A Library Card Is Easy

CARDS FOR RESIDENTS

If you live or own property in Tipton County, this is the card you want! To get a card, bring the following in to the library:

  • A current photo ID
    • Driver’s License
    • State Issued Identification
    • Passport
    • School Identification Card
    • Military Identification Card
  • Proof of current address or property ownership in Tipton County
    • Postmarked Mail
    • Bank Statement / Checkbook
    • Lease Agreement or Mortgage Paperwork
    • Utility Bill
    • Voter or Car Registration

CARDS FOR ADULTS AND YOUTH

  • Adults may check out most library items
  • Youth aged 3 to 17 are eligible for a youth card
  • Adults are responsible for youth cards they sign for; all youth cards require parent/guardian signature
  • Youth under the age of 8 may not borrow certain materials
  • Youth ages 8 and up may check out most items in the library; staff do not supervise the selection of library materials

TCPL IS FINE FREE

  • Most materials may be renewed unless there are holds on an item.
  • The library’s system will automatically attempt to renew items 2 days before their due dates.
  • Email notifications will automatically let patrons know which items were renewed.
  • Patrons who elect not to receive email notifications will not be notified.
  • The library provides automatic renewals as a courtesy, but it is the patron’s responsibility to know his or her due date and should not depend on automatic renewals.
  • Please refer to the Circulation Schedule for renewal limits.

SPECIAL LIBRARY CARDS

If you’re looking to use the library and aren’t eligible for a resident card, check out your options below. Certain restrictions apply, so review the Circulation and Library Card policy for full details.

Digital Access

School districts in the county may sign a memo of understanding with TCPL for access to digital resources. Check with your school to see if it offers a TCPL digital access card.

Educator

Are you a teacher who works in one of the county’s two school districts, or a local pre-school teacher? A homeschool family, tutor, or other educator? Then you qualify for this card, even if you don’t live in Tipton County.

Non-Resident

If you live outside of Tipton County, you must pay to use the resources at TCPL. Check with staff to get this year’s annual fee.

Organization

Businesses, churches, or other organizations in Tipton County may get a library card.

Public Library Access (PLAC)

The State of Indiana offers a PLAC card to residents who have a library card in good standing at their home library. PLAC holders may use their card at any Indiana public library. You may apply for a PLAC at TCPL. There is a charge for this card.

Reciprocal Borrowing

TCPL has made arrangements with other local libraries to offer services to their users. Please contact the library to see if your library is part of the agreement with TCPL.

Special Circumstances

Visiting Tipton County for at least 30 days? You may qualify for this card geared toward short-term residents.
